Generative AI is known for its content creation abilities, but it's also an incredible tool for content discovery.
This week we launched AI Dream Home, a collaboration with Realtor.com that helps people visualize their dream homes and find them in real life. AI Dream Home is novel, not just because it represents a growing trend of brands embracing AI technologies but also because it presents a new modality for real estate discovery and content discovery more broadly.
How It Works
The AI system encourages users to input a visual description of their dream home.
The AI system generates a stylized dream home image using a Stable Diffusion Model.
The AI system converts the dream home into a numerical representation of the image using an image to text model called CLIP.
The AI system uses CLIP embeddings to find similar images on Realtor.com and displays the top matches.
Visual Search
On the one hand, Dream Home is a promotional marketing campaign. It helps Realtor.com participate in the cultural conversation around AI and show up in a way that is innovative and tech-forward while highlighting the scale of RDC's listings (they have more than any other platform). But the project is also interesting because it presents a visually engaging way of searching for a home.
Beyond marketing campaigns, "visual search" represents a different way to find information online. As Generative AI models like CLIP become more powerful, they open opportunities for visual search to become increasingly useful. For example, in the future, if you're looking for a home with a specific type of kitchen, you could describe the kitchen, and AI will find homes that match your description by analyzing millions of photographs. Similar use cases abound in categories like fashion and retail.
